king of the hill

a ski jumping event in the middle of the summer at the norge ski club in fox river grove, ill. the images are pretty similar, and - besides the rather unusual association of skis and green grass and flowers - are quite common photos, but i like them nevertheless. can't decide which one i like most though...

i think i like the second one best. i like not being able to see the wooden jump ramp. how did they do this?

I like the first shot. Right when I saw it, I felt/said "SILLY!!" I can see the speed this guy's traveling at, and it's so unusual considering his surroundings. The second one didn't hit me as hard - maybe cause I saw it second - but there's something about the perfection of the frame that makes it seem artificial. Like a movie set. It's also tough to gauge how high speed racer is. Both great, though. Great pics

Nice Catalin. I vote for number two as well.

thank you all for the comments. i was leaning towards the second one too:)
katie, they use an artificial surface and a lot of water. i couldn't say what that surface is made of, but you can take a trip to lebanon n.h. and check it out yourself. they have a ski jumping trampoline there and they use the same type of surface for summer jumping.

The grass seems big enough, maybe we can go skiing?

I LOVE the second one. It's so surreal and that's what makes it work for me. I don't really care about what's actually happening anymore, what you saw is so much more intriguing. Hope you're doing fine in Romania! Are you still shooting? I'm eagerly waiting for some blog updates here...
